Happy Friday Vegas!
Welcome to the Explore 702 Weekly Events Guide! 🎉
The triple digits have officially touched down in the 702, but the heat on the pavement is nothing compared to the energy taking over the valley this week. While the world’s eyes are on the neon-soaked sunrise at the Motor Speedway for EDC, we’ve been busy tracking the stories that remind us why this city is a true community.
From the first-ever guests checking into the Vanderpump Hotel (the Cromwell’s “industrial romantic” rebirth) to the Academy of Country Music Awards bringing Nashville back to the Strip, it is a high-octane week for entertainment. But before we get to the glitz, we have to talk about what it means to be a neighbor. In our “What We’re Loving” section, we’re honoring the 702Shield—the residents who stepped up during a tragedy this week to protect their own. Whether you’re heading to the VGK Conference Finals watch party at Toshiba Plaza or seeking a quiet picnic at Jazz in the Park, we’ve got your roadmap ready. Grab a cold drink; here is the intelligence you need to own the week.
Beyond the events, I am so excited about the growth of our brand-new Facebook group, The Neighborhood. We just hit over 190 Founding Members, and I am absolutely blown away by the response and now it is time to turn that group into a real Vegas Intelligence Hub! Because we are just getting started, the conversation is really just beginning—and that’s where you come in!
If you haven’t joined yet, please JOIN NOW—I’m building this to be more than just a group; I want it to be the real voice of the 702. Whether you want to share a raw review of a new residency, find or tell us about the best local mechanic, or better yet just show us how you do Vegas, we want to hear your voice! This is where the real conversation needs to happen. We are just getting started, and I would love for you to be a part of the Neighborhood as we grow toward our first 500 Neighbors and beyond.
And don’t forget to join our brand new Explore702 Facebook Group to share your own local tips, experiences, and photos.

LAS VEGAS NEWS
REBRAND COMPLETE: The Vanderpump Hotel Officially Opens at the Former Cromwell
The most iconic corner on the Strip just got a serious Industrial Romantic makeover. Following a massive top-to-bottom transformation of The Cromwell, The Vanderpump Hotel has officially begun its phased opening. This is Lisa Vanderpump’s first-ever standalone hotel venture, and she didn’t hold back on the details. Working alongside longtime design partner Nick Alain, Lisa has reimagined the 188 guest rooms and suites with a sexy elegance palette of moss-green hues, dusty lilac tones, and custom mixed-metal finishes. Standard rooms are starting around $419/night, while the 21 signature suites—described as attainable luxury—scale upward for those wanting the full Vanderpump experience. While the casino floor and Giada have remained open throughout the renovation, the hotel rooms officially come back online for the first guests on May 26, 2026. However, if you’re looking to be part of the official festivities, mark your calendars for June 11, 2026, which has been announced as the star-studded Grand Opening Party.
THE ROOFTOP REVEAL: One of the biggest shifts is the transition of the former Drai’s Beachclub into Soleia, a 65,000-square-foot rooftop pool and event space. While it maintains those unmatched 11-story views of the Strip and Flamingo Road, the vibe has shifted to a lush, upscale retreat that matches the hotel’s new aesthetic.
THE BRAVO BUZZ: It wouldn’t be a Vanderpump project without a little drama. Don’t be surprised if you see camera crews around the property this week. Bravo is currently filming a new series, Vanderpump Rules: Lisa Las Vegas, which chronicles the high-pressure dash to get the hotel ready for its May 26th debut. If you see cameras or a fleet of black SUVs around the property this weekend, you might just be a background extra in the next hit reality series.
- Home Girl Tip:📍While the public grand opening is set for May 29th, a soft launch begins on May 26th for select Caesars Rewards members. If you’re a Platinum or Diamond member, check your app—you might be among the first to experience the attainable luxury of the redesigned suites.
SKYLINE SHIFT: A’s Stadium Construction Hits Major “Red Jr.” Milestone
Progress on the Las Vegas Athletics Stadium at the former Tropicana site is accelerating. This week, crews successfully assembled Red Jr., a massive new crane on the east side of the site that will join the iconic Big Red in lifting heavy steel roof trusses into place. Local observers noted that Harley-Davidson of Las Vegas-branded equipment was active on-site this Wednesday, moving steel into the lower levels. The stadium is beginning to take shape vertically, marking a significant visual shift for the South Strip.
AWARDS WEEK: The 61st ACM Awards Take Over MGM Grand Garden Arena:
While EDC is dominating the Speedway, the country music world is descending on the Strip for the 61st ACM Awards. The main event streams live this Sunday, May 17th, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, but the festivities are already in full swing. Keep an eye out for “Whiskey Jam” takeovers and special “Country on the Green” events at Topgolf through Friday. If you see more cowboy hats than usual at the MGM Grand this weekend, now you know why!
WHAT WE'RE LOVING THIS WEEK
NEIGHBORHOOD HEROES: Taking Down a Gunman on Silverado Ranch
Las Vegas is often called a transient town, but those of us who live here know better. We are a community that looks out for its own and a terrifying moment at the Smith’s on Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch reminded us exactly what we’re made of! This week, two of our neighbors proved Vegas is Strong in the most courageous way possible.
Following a targeted act of domestic violence on Tuesday morning, the suspect—who had been lying in wait—attempted to flee the store after firing numerous shots. While most were running for their lives, a few of our neighbors chose a different path. Without a second thought, two men—strangers to each other but united by the instinct to protect—didn’t wait for backup. They charged toward the shooter, wrestled the weapon out of his hands, and physically subdued him on the ground until Metro could arrive.
This wasn’t just a brave act. By tackling a gunman who was still armed with multiple weapons, these men likely saved countless other lives in those grocery aisles. They turned a scene of pure chaos into a moment of collective strength. We are heartbroken for the families of the two victims lost in this tragedy, but we are standing tall today because of the courage of those who refuse to let fear win in our neighborhoods–you protected the other families in that store, and you reminded all of us that in this city, we have each other’s backs.
To the men who stepped up in that grocery store aisle: You are the definition of what it means to be a 702Hero. You protected the other families in that store, and you reminded all of us that in this city, we have each other’s backs. We are sending our deepest prayers to the families of the victims and the entire Smith’s team, but we are also choosing to love the courage of our neighbors who refused to let a tragedy get any worse.
LAS VEGAS WEATHER UPDATE
The heat is settling in for mid-May! We’re starting things off with a sizzling Friday reaching a high of 99°F under perfectly clear, sunny skies—setting a high-energy stage for the EDC kickoff. The weekend stays warm but brings a slight shift, with temperatures peaking at 93°F on Saturday and 90°F on Sunday. Keep in mind that Sunday will also bring a notable breeze, with gusts reaching 18 mph, which will add a bit of an edge to the afternoon.
The work week ahead promises an interesting temperature swing that keeps things comfortable for exploring the valley. We’ll see a significant, refreshing cool-down by Monday, bringing a high of 77°F, which offers a perfect break from the heat before the desert sun ramps back up. By next Thursday, the mercury is expected to climb back toward the 95°F mark, rounding out the week with that signature warm, dry desert air we all know.
- Home Girl Tip: 📍Since we’re dealing with a range of temperatures from the 70s to the 90s—and those Sunday gusts—layering is your best friend this week! You’ll want those lighter summer clothes for the mid-afternoon heat, but definitely keep a windbreaker or a sweater nearby for the cooler mornings and that breezy Sunday. ☀️🌵🥤
VEGAS MEANS BUSINESS (AND TRAFFIC)
Buckle up, 702! Between a half-million ravers and the world’s biggest retail real estate moguls, our roads are going to be tested this week. Here is where the crowds are gathering:
EDC Las Vegas 2026 | May 15 – 17 | Las Vegas Motor Speedway
- The Scale: ~500,000+ attendees over three days.
- The Impact: EXTREME. Northbound I-15 will be a parking lot every day starting at 2:00 PM. Expect altered traffic patterns near Exit 54 and Exit 58 (Apex), plus heavy delays on Las Vegas Blvd and Craig Road. If you aren’t heading to the festival, avoid the North Strip and I-15 North entirely after lunch.
ICSC RECon 2026 | May 18 – 20 | Las Vegas Convention Center
- The Scale: ~30,000+ retail real estate professionals.
- The Impact: MAJOR. This is the Super Bowl of shopping center deals. Expect high-end SUVs and black car services swarming the Convention Center and Westgate area. Restaurants on the Strip and at the Wynn/Encore will be impossible to book for dinner Monday and Tuesday nights.
Sweets & Snacks Expo | May 19 – 21 | Las Vegas Convention Center
- The Scale: ~16,000+ attendees.
- The Impact: MODERATE. While the attendees are likely having the most fun, they will add to the morning congestion around the LVCC South and Central Halls. Combined with ICSC, the Convention Center district will be at max capacity through Thursday.
Licensing Expo 2026 | May 19 – 21 | Mandalay Bay Convention Center
- The Scale: ~12,000+ brand and marketing executives.
- The Impact: LOCALIZED. Expect heavy foot traffic and rideshare delays around the South End of the Strip (Mandalay Bay and Luxor). If you’re heading to a Golden Knights watch party on Wednesday, give yourself an extra 20 minutes to navigate the South Strip.
