Exciting developments are underway at the Galen College of Nursing, which recently celebrated the grand opening of its new campus connected to the Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center. This initiative aims to address the critical nursing shortage in Nevada, where the state is in need of over 3,000 registered nurses to meet the national average, according to a 2023 study by the Nevada Health Workforce Research Center.
Galen College currently has over 150 students enrolled and is projecting a remarkable increase to 1,000 students across its two-year ASN and three-year BSN programs by early 2026. With a strong focus on nursing education, the college not only offers high-quality training but also provides a pathway for individuals looking to advance their careers in healthcare. Enrollment occurs four times a year, with approximately 60 new students welcomed each term. WHAT WE'RE LOVING THIS WEEK
This week, we want to highlight a poignant story that has brought closure to a Las Vegas family after nearly three decades. In 1994, Jason White received devastating news that his sister, Melonie, had been found dead near Lake Mead Boulevard. Fast forward to now, Jason and his brother Walter received a life-changing voicemail from the Las Vegas Metro Police, informing them that Melonie’s killer had been identified.
Thanks to the efforts of the Vegas Justice League, who provided funding for DNA testing, the case was finally solved. The brothers expressed their gratitude to the League for its support in bringing peace to their family, even though they have no desire to delve deeper into the details of the man responsible. This story serves as a reminder of the tireless work of law enforcement and community organizations in solving cold cases, showcasing the incredible impact they have on the lives of those affected.
